Personal Invitation from Rod

To the young man considering Mission Quest:

I’m old enough to be your father, young enough to be your brother. I’m “small” enough to spank you and “big” enough to say, “I’m sorry.”  And I care enough to be your friend. If you think I’m kidding, you don’t know me very well, and maybe you should!

I’m only a man. I’ve struggled in many of the same places you are struggling, and I’ve fallen into some of the same traps you’ve fallen into.

I also desire much of what you desire, and love what you love, and hate what you hate.

But I know what you don’t know, and I’m crazy enough to think we could be good for each other.  You need to grow up, and I need to stay young.  You need to glean some wisdom; I need to share some. You need some experience; I’ve got enough to go around. You must take a hold of Jesus; I must keep a hold of Him.

I’d like you to seriously consider this training opportunity. Not because I think it’s better than your other options, but partly because it’s totally different from your other options. If you will apply yourself, not only will you benefit greatly, but your family will also be blessed. You will learn principles and techniques that will enable you to bring joy and real satisfaction, peace and security into your future family. The church, your work place. and the community around you will be changed by your Spirit-led, empowered, Godly manhood.

Our recreational program will challenge you no matter what level of ability you may have.  The vocational training will add practical knowledge needed for any future pursuit. The spiritual studies will prove that God is for you, and that He is longing to be your Friend and Companion.

The setting of Mission Quest really is the wilderness.  Don’t tell your mom, but we really do have grizzly bears, mountain lions, and wolves here. But you and I both know that they are not what is most dangerous to a young man... Our mountains stretch for hundreds of miles in all directions.
In fact, it’s a hundred miles to Wal-Mart! Now that’s an adventureeven in a pickup truck!

I don’t tell you this to scare you away; on the contrary. The still small voice of God can be better heard in a quiet place where the stars at midnight shine as brightly on the horizon as they do straight overhead. Where a pair of binoculars can see the light of heaven shining through the corridor of Orion.  Where the crimson glow of campfire coals warms more than your skin—it warms your soul.

Can you stay forever?  Probably not, but you can stay long enough to redeem the time that’s been lost listening to other voices; long enough to choose for good Whom you will serve; long enough to make a difference for eternity. “Come let us reason together.” I think you’ll be glad you did, Friend.
